Andy Mayell - Musical Director - Corby Silver Band
After a lengthy audition process, due to a very strong field of candidates, it is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Andy Mayell as Corby Silver Band’s Musical Director. Andy brings with him a wealth of experience having played in brass bands from an early age.
When informed of his successful audition and appointment, Andy said
“I am delighted to have been appointed Musical Director of the Corby Silver Band. It is a great pleasure to be directing one of my local bands and I’m looking forward to many future contest and concert performances.”
Cathy Fountain, retiring after 9 years of being the Musical Director at Corby Silver Band
The band would like to express our grateful thanks as we say farewell and thank you to our MD, Cathy Fountain. After sustaining injuries from a serious traffic accident and additional ongoing health issues, Cathy has made the decision to step down from the MD position and retire from conducting.
Cathy has been the Musical Director of Corby Silver Band for 9 years. During this time, she helped the band achieve promotion to the third section and conducted the band at the fourth section National finals after the band won the title - Fourth section Midlands area champions. She also led the band to podium finishes at local entertainment contests.
Cathy kindly agreed to continue conducting the band until the area contest in March, in which we achieved a pleasing fifth position.
2022 contesting band
On 6th March, the band took part in the Midlands Area Regional contest. This was held in our home town in the Core theatre of the Corby Cube. We had worked hard to build up the band, filling the vacancies left after player retirements following the lockdown due to the Covid 19 pandemic, and rehearsing the test piece and were pleased with our 5th place position out of the 13 bands that attended the contest.

When we started rehearsals in the new year, we were pleased to welcome a number of new players. We have filled the vacancies in the horn, euphonium and trombone sections and have further strengthened the cornet section.
